...and I still haven't realized that I'm going. I guess it'll come to me at some point. Christmas has been wonderful, lot's of friends and family, long dinners, movies, music, long shifts at the pub - exactly how a decent holiday should be.
I've done nearly all my preparations, and will start packing tomorrow. Tickets are ordered, visa is applied for, airport pickup is organized, health certificate and vaccines likewise. Preparing an exchange is a fulltime job! And expensive. Luckily the living costs in Ghana aren't too bad!
This weekend will be spent in Tromsø, spending time with good friends, and saying the last "See you this summer!"s. I can't think of a better last weekend in Norway! Monday mom will come to Tromsø, and we'll spend the day together, before we fly back to Alta, where I'll spend the last two nights. Wednesday morning at 7:35 am, I'll be on my way to Ghana - vis Oslo and Tromsø. In Ghana I'll be met by someone from the International Students Office at UG (www.ug.edu.gh for those interested), who will take me to campus. The univeristy is located about 13 km outside Accra, the capital of Ghana. The city has nearly 3 million inhabitants and the university has nearly 30.000 students. Quite a change for a student from a little university in a little country far up north.
The weather forecast for my arrival in Ghana is nothing to complain about: 29 degrees and bright sunshine! Not bad for a Norwegian girl who hasn't seen the sun in months and who's getting used to 15 - 20 degrees - below.
I'll probably post a list of what I've packed when I'm done, right now all I have is a long list, an empty suitcase and stuff lying around here and there. (All though I've already ensured my grandmother that I'll bring some of the several packages of Strepsils lozengers she has bought me... Apparently she thinks that I'll walk around with a sore throat for five months with no pharmacy in sight. Cute that she worries about me though.)
I'll try to blog as often as possible, at least once a weak, and I'll hopefully blog once more before I leave - and definitly when I get there and get connected!
That's just a little update for now - the countdown has begun!
Off to bed (and in a week that bed will be in Ghana)!
